Tremains Gatsby Picnic
ART DECO TRUST EVENT
Sponsored by Tremains
Celebrate the elegance of the Art Deco movement at one of the festival’s most iconic events — the Tremains Gatsby Picnic. Bring a picnic rug or set up a gazebo, pack your favourite food and drink, and spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon with friends amid the splendour of Napier’s upper and lower lawns. Dressed in their finest, thousands gather to picnic in true Deco style. Our judge, Simon Tremain, will begin his careful deliberations at around 1:30pm, with the winner of the best gazebo announced soon after.
In the event of wet weather, the picnic tradition continues — moving to Emerson Street, where guests will gather beneath the shop canopies.
TREMAINS GATSBY PICNIC INFO
Gazebos – Gazebos on the seaward side of the lawns only. No gazebos to be erected before Sun 21 Feb, 6am. Once the top lawn is full, gazebos can be erected on the Lower Lawn to the south of the Tom Parker Fountain. Please keep the ends of the top lawns clear so that people who are promenading have a clear path. Strictly no metal pegs are to be put into the lawn due to irrigation lines. Gazebos must be weighted down with sandbags or water weights and guy ropes to be kept within 20cm of the gazebo to avoid becoming a trip hazard.
Access – Wheelchair access to Lower Lawn via Napier War Memorial Centre or isite.
Drop Off Area – Marine Parade will be closed from the Tom Parker Fountain to Vautier Street. You can use the area in front of the fountain as a drop off point, but there is strictly no parking allowed.
Toilets – Behind the Soundshell and on the Lower Lawn to the right of the Tom Parker Fountain.
The Gatsby Picnic is intended to be a community picnic – and not an opportunity to sell goods. Anyone who is not authorised by the Art Deco Trust to sell goods will be asked to leave.
GATSBY PICNIC GRAZING BOX – Let the team at ROAM cater for your Gatsby Picnic with one of its thoughtfully constructed grazing boxes. Click here to order yours!
