Saturday Night at the Soundshell
Saturday night at the Napier Soundshell is always a festival favourite, and this year is no exception. The evening commences with the magical sounds of the Wellington Shake-’Em-On-Downers, followed by the high-energy Lady Larisa and her band, performing a dazzling set of songs from the 1930s and beyond.
SHAKE-‘EM-ON-DOWNERS
The Wellington City Shake-’Em-On-Downers, are a sextet of the capital’s most danceable jazz musicians who have brought the traditional music of New Orleans and early jazz to the shores of our fine isles since 2011. They came up with the band name before anyone thought about how hard it would be to remember. Performing energetic original music inspired by the New Orleans and swing era, the Shake-’Ems will serve you up a spicy jambalaya full of mystery meat.
LADY LARISA
Swingin’ onto the Soundshell stage like a firecracker in a vintage cabaret – Lady Larisa is here to steal the show! She’s got the soul of a siren, the swagger of a silver screen star, and a voice smoother than top-shelf whiskey. From smokin’ jazz clubs in New Orleans or Hollywood to the big leagues with Michael Bublé, she’s charmed ‘em all. She’ll light up the night with her top-class deco band for you to dance the night away.
