Art Deco Fashion On The Foreshore Competition
ART DECO TRUST EVENT
Always hotly contested, the Art Deco Fashion on the Foreshore Competition is one of the most popular events in the Art Deco Festival Napier programme. Come along and marvel at the magnificent outfits on display, or be brave and take to the catwalk yourself. This is your chance to shine and win fabulous prizes. With free entry and revised categories this year, there is sure to be one that fits your fashion bill. Entries will be taken online so you can plan, organise and tell us about your award-winning outfits before you get to the Festival. Registration prior to the day is encouraged!
Event Timings
1.00pm – Registration Opens – From 1pm, please check in with our friendly Festival Ambassadors who will be located at the front of the Soundshell. You will receive your number and be shown around to the side stage door where we will have shade and water available while you wait. There is also a toilet available.
2.00pm – Event Starts
3.10pm – Prize Giving
3.30pm – Event Ends

Best Dressed Child
A delightful celebration of youthful elegance! This category honours the child who brings vintage charm and timeless style to life, capturing the spirit of the Art Deco era with flair. Whether in a mini flapper dress, vintage original or dapper suit, this award celebrates the child who truly embodies the era’s playful sophistication.
Most Chic (female styling)
For the individual who exudes elegance and refinement, this category celebrates the Art Deco aesthetic of clean lines, geometric patterns, and sophisticated glamour. The Most Chic award goes to the person whose look is polished, perfectly put-together, and effortlessly fashionable female style.
Most Dapper (male styling)
Sharp, sleek, and sartorially savvy! This category celebrates the male styling and brings Art Deco’s tailored precision and smooth sophistication to life. From sharply cut suits to perfectly accessorized looks, this award is for the person who embodies the best of male vintage style with contemporary panache.
Best Original or Recreation Ensemble
This category celebrates creativity and craftsmanship, recognizing those who showcase truly original, one-of-a-kind garments or recreations that celebrates the beauty of individuality and creativity. Entrants should present a complete and unique look that captures the essence of Art Deco fashion while meeting specific standards. Judges will be looking for original or recreation garments that demonstrate excellence in condition, fit, era-specific details, rarity, and a cohesive outfit where all elements work seamlessly together. This award honours the artistry of original or recreations, well-executed looks that perfectly embody the 1920s and 1930s.
Best Group Ensemble (NEW)
A new category to acknowledge the styling of a group of individuals. There must be a minimum of two people in the group, and the styling must be cohesive or forming a unified look in keeping with the Deco period.
